Hamas Cell in Turkey Uncovered by Israeli Forces, Suicide Bombing Thwarted

Shin Bet's swift action prevents major terrorist attack planned by Hamas operatives.

On Monday, Israeli security forces successfully thwarted a planned suicide bombing attack orchestrated by Hamas operatives based in Turkey. The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, arrested several terrorists involved in the plot, preventing what could have been a devastating attack.

In Nablus, Shin Bet detained Anas Shurman, originally from Tulkarem in Samaria and currently residing in Jordan, for his involvement in the planned attack. During interrogation, Shurman disclosed that he had been recruited by Imad Abid, a Hamas terrorist from Judea and Samaria now living in Turkey. Shurman was trained to carry out the suicide bombing within Israel.

Shurman received motorcycle lessons and detailed instructions on how to retrieve a hidden explosive device en route to the target location. The Shin Bet recovered a 12 kg (26.5-pound) explosive device with written instructions from its hiding place in Samaria. Additionally, five other terrorists in Nablus responsible for creating and concealing the explosive device were apprehended.

Shurman has been charged with “attempting to intentionally cause death” and membership in a terror organization. The Shin Bet's investigation underscores Hamas' operations in Turkey and their efforts to direct terrorist attacks within Israel.

Senior Hamas leaders have been found to be planning the establishment of military bases and terror cells in Turkey and neighboring countries, according to secret documents discovered by the Israeli army. These papers, found in the home of Yahya Sinwar’s chief of staff, outlined plans for multiple military cells and safe houses across the region.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has historically maintained close relations with Hamas, not recognizing the group as a terrorist organization. Erdogan has hosted Qatar-based Hamas politburo head Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul and has often blamed Israel for the conflict in Gaza. Several Hamas terrorists injured in clashes with the IDF are currently receiving treatment in Turkish hospitals.

Israel remains vigilant in its fight against terrorism, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. Stay updated on the latest security developments by subscribing to our newsletter and sharing this article with your community.
