Israel Rises to Eighth Place in Global Arms Exports

How Israeli military technology is transforming international defense markets despite ongoing conflict.

Across the skies and borders of Israel, the world has come to recognize the cutting-edge might of the Iron Dome, Merkava tanks, and Israel Aerospace Industries drones. These symbols of defense and precision are not just safeguarding Israel they're quietly reshaping the global arms market.

According to the latest report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Israel has secured its position as the eighth-largest arms exporter worldwide, accounting for 3.1% of total global arms exports. This leap puts Israel ahead of Spain, which holds a 3% share, and highlights the growing international demand for Israeli defense systems.

The report emphasizes the continued dominance of the United States in the arms trade, commanding a massive 43% of global exports. Other top players include France (9.6%), Russia (7.8%), Germany (5.6%), and Italy (4.8%). Yet, Israel’s steady climb in this competitive landscape stands out, particularly given the challenging backdrop of the ongoing war in Gaza.

India has emerged as Israel’s largest customer, accounting for 34% of Israeli arms exports. The United States follows at 13%, with the Philippines purchasing 8.1%. These partnerships reflect not only the effectiveness of Israeli defense technology but also the trust and strategic alliances Israel has fostered worldwide.

Israel is not solely an exporter; it also ranks fifteenth among global arms importers, representing 1.9% of total imports. Germany notably counts Israel as its third-largest customer, sending 11% of its exported arms to the Jewish state.

Meanwhile, Europe’s arms imports have surged by 155% amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine. Ukraine itself has seen its arms imports soar by an astonishing 9,627% since 2022, making it the largest importer globally, responsible for 8.8% of global arms purchases. The United States supplies nearly half of Ukraine’s weapons, with Germany and Poland following close behind.

Israel’s ascent in the international arms market is a testament to its innovation-driven defense sector and its commitment to maintaining security while contributing to global defense solutions.

Israel continues to prove that strength, ingenuity, and strategic cooperation can secure not only its future but also fortify its role on the world stage. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed on Israel’s growing impact worldwide.
