Israel and Hungary Launch Joint Effort to Fight Antisemitism in Europe

Ministers meet to develop strategic action plans and strengthen Jewish community protection.

Israel and Hungary have announced a collaborative effort to confront the alarming rise of antisemitism across Europe. In a meeting held this week, Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Minister Amichai Chikli met with his Hungarian counterpart, Minister János Bóka, to coordinate strategies aimed at strengthening security and support for Jewish communities under increasing threat.

The high-level meeting between the two ministers focused on Europe’s rapidly deteriorating climate for Jewish life, with antisemitic incidents escalating in both frequency and severity since the start of the Gaza war. The discussions were followed by a joint session of the antisemitism task forces from both countries, where officials reviewed concrete action plans to tackle the issue.

“The Hungarian government continually proves its deep commitment and the strength of the relationship between Hungary and Israel,” said Minister Chikli. He praised Bóka’s understanding of the dangers facing Europe’s Jews, noting the productive strategic discussion between their teams on how best to respond to growing threats.

The joint task forces examined operational plans that include increased intelligence sharing, enhanced legal frameworks, educational initiatives to combat hate speech, and stronger physical protection of synagogues, schools, and cultural institutions. Practical cooperation is being explored in fields such as law enforcement, public diplomacy, and diaspora support.

Hungary has in recent years positioned itself as one of Israel’s staunchest allies in Europe, with its government consistently condemning antisemitism and supporting Israel’s right to self-defense. This latest initiative deepens that alliance and offers a united front in the face of a continental surge in hostility toward Jewish communities.

The joint declaration by Israel and Hungary serves as a model of proactive bilateral engagement, showing how coordinated policy and mutual respect can be used to protect vulnerable populations and preserve the heritage of Jewish life in Europe.

As Israel continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with allies like Hungary, it reinforces the message that antisemitism will not be tolerated neither in Europe nor anywhere else.
