Israel and India Sign Strategic Defense Pact Amid Global Arms Boycotts
$4.6 billion deal underscores deepening ties and shared security goals between two democratic powers.

In a powerful signal of international partnership, Israel and India signed a major defense cooperation agreement during a high-level summit of their Joint Working Group (JWG) on Tuesday. The meeting, held amid a backdrop of global arms boycotts against Israel, highlights the enduring strength and strategic value of the Israel–India alliance.
The agreement, formalized by Maj.-Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, Director-General of Israel’s Defense Ministry, and Indian Defense Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, included a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand collaboration in defense, technology, and industrial development.
Though specific deal terms were not fully disclosed, prior reports indicate India will acquire:
Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), valued at approximately $3.75 billion
The conversion of six commercial aircraft into aerial refueling tankers for the Indian Air Force, worth around $900 million
In total, the package represents a $4.6 billion commitment to Israeli defense technology a resounding vote of confidence in Israel’s innovation and military capability at a time when other democracies have scaled back defense cooperation due to the war in Gaza.
“This strategic dialogue with India takes place at a critical juncture for both countries,” Baram stated. “Our strategic partnership is based on deep mutual trust and shared security interests. We view India as a first-rate strategic partner.”
A special industry panel was held during the event, where the CEOs of leading Israeli defense firms showcased cutting-edge technologies and presented new cooperative initiatives aimed at deepening industrial ties with India. Key Israeli stakeholders included the heads of the Defense Research & Development Directorate (DDR&D), SIBAT (International Defense Cooperation), and the IDF Planning Directorate.
India’s delegation featured senior defense officials and high-ranking military representatives, reflecting New Delhi’s long-term commitment to the bilateral relationship.
India has consistently maintained robust defense and trade relations with Israel, viewing it as a key ally in counterterrorism, intelligence, and border security. In contrast to nations that have withdrawn support or condemned Israel amid the Gaza conflict, India’s engagement marks a significant strategic affirmation.
By moving forward with this landmark deal, India not only reinforces its defense capabilities but also sends a clear message of solidarity and trust in Israel’s global standing.
