Israel Post Honors National Library with New Stamp Collection

Commemorating Architectural Beauty and Cultural Heritage in Jerusalem.

Israel Post has issued a new set of stamps celebrating the National Library of Israel's (NLI) stunning new building in Jerusalem. The commemorative stamps feature iconic architectural highlights, including The Ilona and Hugo Lowy Reading Halls, The Ilona and Hugo Lowy Special Collections Reading Hall, and the impressive central staircase.

The release of these stamps marks a tribute to NLI’s renewal project, which began in 2007 with the goal of engaging diverse audiences both in Israel and around the world. This initiative included educational, cultural, and digital outreach programs, culminating in the construction of the new state-of-the-art library building. The project was made possible through the generous support of Yad Hanadiv, a Rothschild Family Foundation, and philanthropists David and Ruth Gottesman.

The new National Library building officially opened to the public at the end of October 2023, during a challenging time of conflict. Despite this, it has already welcomed thousands of visitors, drawn by its architectural brilliance, cultural exhibitions, and a vast collection of books, manuscripts, and historical archives that reflect the heritage of communities in Israel and the Jewish diaspora.

Oren Weinberg, CEO of the National Library of Israel, praised the new building, calling it “an exceptional architectural gem in the Jerusalem landscape and a landmark in Israeli and world architecture.” He emphasized that it was fitting to commemorate this inspiring structure through stamps that celebrate architecture and culture, expressing gratitude to Israel Post for the honor.

David Laron, CEO of Israel Post, highlighted the importance of the Library as a “storehouse of treasure that preserves the written word, the story, prayer, and history of the People of the Book.” He noted the significance of issuing stamps that honor an institution dedicated to preserving Jewish heritage and fostering cultural knowledge.

The new stamps not only recognize the architectural beauty of the National Library but also celebrate its role as a cultural hub and guardian of historical narratives. This release showcases Israel's commitment to preserving its rich heritage while embracing modern cultural expressions.
