Israel Vows Strong Response to Any Hezbollah Ceasefire Violations
Defense Minister Katz Affirms IDF's Commitment to Northern Security Amid Partial Withdrawal from Southern Lebanon.

In a decisive move, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will respond "forcefully and without compromise" to any infractions of the current ceasefire by Hezbollah. This announcement follows the IDF's recent withdrawal from several southern Lebanese villages, while maintaining a presence in five strategic positions along the border.
Katz emphasized the necessity of this partial withdrawal, stating that the retained outposts are essential to safeguard Israel's northern communities. He asserted, "We are determined to ensure full security for all northern communities." The Defense Minister also called upon Hezbollah to retreat north of the Litani River and urged the Lebanese army to enforce the disarmament of the militant group, in line with the U.S.-supervised ceasefire agreement.
The Lebanese government, however, views any continued Israeli military presence on its territory as an occupation. A spokesperson for Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated this stance, highlighting the potential for increased tensions in the region.
The IDF's decision to hold these five positions, located on strategic high ground overlooking key Israeli border communities, aims to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing a foothold in proximity to Israel. This action aligns with the terms of the ceasefire deal brokered by the United States in November, which mandated the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon.
As the situation develops, the international community closely monitors the adherence of all parties to the ceasefire terms, recognizing the delicate balance required to maintain peace and stability along the Israel-Lebanon border.
