Israel Strikes Islamic Jihad Headquarters in Damascus

IDF targets terror strongholds in Syria as tensions escalate in the region.

The Israel Air Force carried out a powerful strike on the headquarters of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization in Damascus, Syria, on Thursday. The Israeli military confirmed the operation, stating that the facility was being used to plan and coordinate terrorist activities against Israel.

“A short time ago, air force fighter jets, guided by the Northern Command and the Intelligence Directorate, attacked a terrorist headquarters of the PIJ in Damascus,” the IDF announced. The strike is part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to prevent terror groups from using Syrian territory as a base of operations.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made it clear that Israel will not tolerate threats from its northern neighbor. “Wherever terrorist activity against Israel is organized, the leader of radical Islam, al-Julani, will find air force jets hovering above him and striking terrorist targets,” Katz said, referring to Syria’s de facto new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani.

The attack on PIJ’s headquarters was part of a broader campaign. On Monday night, Israeli fighter jets targeted radar installations and other military assets in southern Syria, including command centers and weapons depots once controlled by the Assad regime. These facilities, the IDF stated, posed a direct threat to Israeli security and military operations.

Throughout the past week, Israeli forces have been carrying out targeted raids in Syria, dismantling weapons caches and neutralizing threats. The IDF has also taken up key strategic positions, including areas beyond the Golan Heights buffer zone and on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, following the collapse of the Assad regime in December.

In addition to military operations, Israel’s leadership has condemned the ongoing atrocities in Syria. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar denounced the mass killings reportedly carried out by forces loyal to al-Sharaa in Tartus and Latakia, where over a thousand civilians were murdered. “This weekend, the masks fell. Al-Julani’s men mercilessly massacred their own people the citizens of the so-called ‘New Syria,’” Sa’ar stated.

Israel remains firm in its stance: Syria will not be allowed to become a launching pad for terror. With its forces deployed at critical points and its intelligence services closely monitoring developments, Israel continues to take decisive action to eliminate threats before they reach its borders.
