German Leader Backs Israeli Strikes, Calls Them a Shared Global Burden

German Chancellor Merz applauds Israel’s decisive move to protect global security.

In a striking declaration, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised Israel’s military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities as a service to the world.

Speaking to ZDF during the G7 summit in Canada, Merz expressed, “This is the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us,” recognizing Israel’s bold step to neutralize a major threat.

While Merz drew criticism earlier this month for his sharp words on Israel’s Gaza operations, he has now firmly backed Israel’s right to defend itself as the conflict with Iran escalates. He emphasized that this strike may have significantly weakened a regime posing a danger to Germany and its allies. He also lauded Israel’s bravery, stating, “I have the greatest respect for the fact that the Israeli army and the Israeli government had the courage to do this.”

Merz noted that the United States has not yet reached a firm decision regarding direct military involvement. He highlighted that U.S. President Donald Trump departed the summit early to deliberate the matter at the White House.

This episode marks a clear shift in European leadership moving from criticism to unequivocal support of Israel’s actions. It reflects a growing sense of shared responsibility among Western nations to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear ambitions.

Israel’s operation against Iran stands as a powerful reminder of its vigilance and capability to shield its people and by extension, its allies from existential threats. In doing so, Israel reinforces its vital role in safeguarding global stability.
