Home Debut Success for Israeli-Born Baseball Player with New York Boulders

Assaf Lowengart Thrills Fans with Stellar Performance at Clover Stadium.

In a dazzling home debut at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y., on June 20, Assaf Lowengart, an Israeli-born baseball star, captivated the crowd with an impressive performance. In his second at-bat, Lowengart hammered a three-run home run to right field. His next at-bat saw him double off the left field wall, steal third base, and score on a passed ball.

“It’s amazing to be here. It’s a long time coming,” Lowengart shared after the second game of a doubleheader. Despite the late hour, he enthusiastically signed autographs for fans.

The New York Boulders, part of the Frontier League, signed Lowengart in February. Due to visa issues, he remained in Israel until about a week ago, missing the season's start in May. The 26-year-old from Timorim, a central Israeli moshav, described the delays as "insane."

“We’re relieved to finally get him here,” said Sean Reilly, president and general manager of the Boulders, after the team's 11-1 victory over the New Jersey Jackals. Reilly praised Lowengart’s versatility and hard work, attributing his arrival in part to the assistance of Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.).

T.J. Stanton, the Boulders' manager, highlighted Lowengart's ability to play multiple positions, stating, “He can play eight positions. He’s very patient and a team player that really helps us.”

David Vinsky, a star Jewish player on the team, also praised Lowengart, saying, “Assaf brings a lot to our team. He’s a really good guy and is gonna be a big part of what’s going on here.”

Fans, especially within the Jewish community, celebrated Lowengart’s presence. David Landman, a Jewish parent, emphasized the importance of having a role model like Lowengart, particularly in light of rising antisemitism and media attacks on Israel.

Peter Kurz, CEO of the Israel Association of Baseball, lauded Lowengart’s achievements, calling him the best Israeli sabra to play professional baseball in the U.S. Kurz recounted Lowengart’s journey from skepticism to becoming one of Israel's top players, participating in national teams and the Olympics.

Lowengart's commitment to Israel was evident during the October 7th attacks when he volunteered for agricultural assistance and participated in baseball clinics for evacuated Israeli children. He emphasized the significance of sports in Israeli society, noting how baseball teaches resilience and teamwork.

As the Boulders prepare for Jewish Heritage Day on July 7, fans can look forward to seeing Lowengart in action, running the bases, and getting autographs. The team currently leads the East division with a record of 26-12.
