Israeli Intelligence Prevents Assassination Plot Aimed at Netanyahu and High-Ranking Officials
Iranian-Recruited Israeli Jew Arrested for Plotting Assassinations of Israeli Leaders.
Israeli intelligence agencies have foiled a plot orchestrated by Iranian operatives to assassinate top Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The suspect, an Israeli Jew with business ties to Turkey and Iran, was arrested in August following a joint investigation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israeli Police.
The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly recruited by Iranian intelligence during two covert trips to Iran, where he was tasked with various missions, including planning the assassinations of high-ranking Israeli figures.
“This is a very serious affair... an example of the great efforts of Iranian intelligence agencies to recruit Israeli citizens to promote terrorist activities in Israel,” a senior Shin Bet official said. The investigation revealed that the suspect had extensive interactions with Iranian operatives, including meetings with wealthy Iranian businessman Eddy and Iranian security operative Haja.
The plot involved photographing key locations in Israel, transferring money and weapons, and even intimidating Israeli citizens. Iranian intelligence also pressed the suspect to target Shin Bet Chief Ronan Bar and explore assassinations of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other figures.
Despite receiving only 5,000 euros as an advance payment, the suspect remained involved in the conspiracy until his arrest. The Shin Bet warned that Iran is likely to continue its efforts to recruit operatives inside Israel to carry out intelligence gathering and terrorist missions.
