Israeli Olympic Committee Honors Eden Nimri by Adopting Her Handwriting in Logo
Memorial Day tribute ensures fallen swimmer and soldier’s legacy continues to inspire athletes and citizens alike.

The Olympic Committee of Israel unveiled a deeply emotional tribute this week in memory of Captain Eden Nimri, a professional swimmer and IDF commander who was killed during Hamas’s brutal assault on the Nahal Oz base on October 7, 2023.
In a special Memorial Day gesture, the committee officially changed its logo to incorporate Nimri’s own handwriting, embedding the word "Israel" in Hebrew as she had once written it.
Before she heroically defended her country in uniform, Nimri had proudly represented Israel in the pool, competing at international events such as the 2018 European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships and the 2017 World Championships hosted by the International School Sport Federation. Her athletic talent and national pride had already made her a standout figure among Israel’s youth.
Tragically, Nimri, who led an all-female team in the elite Sky Riders unit, sacrificed herself on October 7 by fighting Hamas terrorists at the base’s bomb shelter. Her bravery enabled 11 of her fellow soldiers to escape to safety.
“This is the second Memorial Day without Eden, but her inspiration and her bravery are always with us,” said Sharon Nimri, Eden’s mother. “Seeing her handwriting preserved in this way is deeply emotional and meaningful. It proves once again how significant she was in her life – and how significant she will remain.”
Israeli Olympic athletes will now honor Nimri by sharing personalized graphics featuring her handwriting across their social media platforms, expressing solidarity with her legacy and the values she embodied.
“The commemoration of Eden Nimri through her handwriting is not just a personal and emotional tribute,” said Sivan Fischler, Deputy CEO of the Olympic Committee of Israel. “It’s a powerful reminder of courage, perseverance, and dedication values that lie at the heart of both sport and service.”
This moving tribute is part of the broader "Forever Written" project ("Ot Zikaron" in Hebrew), a national initiative that creates original fonts from the handwriting of fallen soldiers, preserving their memory through a living, visible form.
Nimri’s handwriting now carries her spirit into every arena where Israel’s athletes compete, linking the worlds of sport, sacrifice, and national pride in a way that will continue to inspire for generations.
