Israeli Strikes Eliminate Senior Iranian Leadership in Operation Roaring Lion

In one of the most dramatic developments in Middle Eastern history, Israeli strikes on Tehran have reportedly eliminated Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several of the regime’s most senior military and intelligence officials.

According to Israeli officials briefed Saturday evening, the operation named Operation Roaring Lion targeted the core leadership structure of the Iranian regime in a coordinated campaign carried out with US support.

IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin confirmed that multiple senior Iranian officials were killed in two major strikes earlier in the day. Among those named were IRGC commander Mohammad Pakpour, Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh, senior adviser Ali Shamkhani, and Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri.

Iran International further reported that four senior Iranian intelligence commanders were killed, including heads of foreign intelligence, security, and counterterrorism units.

The reported elimination of Khamenei marks a seismic shift in the regional balance of power. While Iranian officials initially claimed he had been moved to a secure location, Israeli sources indicated that the complex where he was reportedly being guarded was destroyed in the strike.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, stating that the goal of the operation was to dismantle the Ayatollah regime and remove existential threats to Israel.

“For 47 years, the Ayatollah regime has called for ‘Death to Israel’ and ‘Death to America,’” Netanyahu said. “This murderous terrorist regime must not be allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity.”

He called on the Iranian people Persians, Kurds, Azeris, Balochis, and Ahwazis—to seize the moment and remove what he described as the “yoke of tyranny.”

Operation Roaring Lion targeted dozens of military and strategic sites across Iran. The IDF confirmed strikes on advanced air defense systems, missile launchers, unmanned aerial vehicle bases, and key weapons production facilities.

One strike destroyed an advanced SA-65 aerial defense system in western Iran, significantly degrading Tehran’s defensive capabilities. The Israeli Air Force continued flyovers Saturday evening aimed at neutralizing missile launchers to reduce threats to the Israeli home front.

The IDF stated that months of joint planning with the US military preceded the operation, enabling full synchronization between the two forces. American officials confirmed that US air and sea assets participated in the strikes.

Israel entered a nationwide state of emergency early Saturday morning, warning citizens to remain near protected spaces in anticipation of retaliation. Sirens sounded across northern and central Israel as Iranian missiles were detected. A rocket impact was reported in northern Israel.

Iranian officials have vowed a “crushing” response.

The confrontation has reverberated across the region. Bahrain activated air raid sirens near the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters. The US Embassy in Qatar ordered personnel to shelter in place. Explosions were reported in Abu Dhabi, and an Iraqi site linked to Iran-backed militias was reportedly struck.

Israel has also issued evacuation warnings in Persian to civilians near Iranian weapons facilities, urging them to leave dangerous areas immediately. Mossad launched a Farsi-language Telegram channel addressing “our Iranian brothers and sisters,” emphasizing that Israel’s fight is against the regime not the Iranian people.

The IDF emphasized that the regime had continued efforts to fortify and conceal its nuclear program despite previous blows and had intensified the arming of proxies positioned on Israel’s borders.

“This operation was conducted to thoroughly degrade the Iranian terrorist regime and remove existential threats to the State of Israel over time,” the military stated.
