Italy Offers Support for Gaza Reconstruction and Peacekeeping
PM Meloni praises Trump’s peace plan as Foreign Minister Tajani says Italy ready to send troops if needed.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday welcomed the agreement between Israel and Hamas, praising U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan as a “unique opportunity” to end the war and begin rebuilding Gaza. She confirmed Italy’s readiness to support reconstruction and stabilization efforts in the region.
“The agreement reached in Egypt for the implementation of the first phase of President Trump's peace plan is extraordinary news,” Meloni stated, hailing the ceasefire, release of hostages, and Israel’s withdrawal to agreed lines as a major diplomatic milestone.
Meloni credited the relentless mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, alongside the Trump administration’s leadership, for making the breakthrough possible. “I urge all parties to fully respect the measures already agreed upon and to work to quickly implement the next steps envisioned by the peace plan,” she said.
“Italy will continue to support the efforts of the mediators and is ready to contribute to the stabilization, reconstruction, and development of Gaza,” the Prime Minister added, signaling strong European engagement with the next phase of the agreement.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani echoed Meloni’s remarks, calling the agreement “excellent news” and emphasizing that “peace is around the corner.” In an interview with RTL, Tajani praised the mediators for securing Hamas’s agreement and noted that the U.S. had successfully urged Israel to accept key terms.
“This is the first step in the implementation of the American plan that the Italian government, with the support of Parliament, has always supported,” he said. “We must defend peace. Signing an agreement is not enough we must build a lasting peace, with the ultimate goal of a two-state solution.”
Tajani also confirmed Italy’s willingness to participate in peacekeeping operations. “Italy, which has always supported the U.S. plan, is ready to do its part to consolidate the ceasefire, deliver new humanitarian aid, and participate in the reconstruction of Gaza,” he posted to X/Twitter. “We are also ready to send troops if an international peacekeeping force is created to reunify Palestine.”
Italy’s pledge adds significant weight to the international coalition forming around the Trump-led initiative. With key European powers meeting in Paris to coordinate aid and political support, the momentum behind the peace process appears to be solidifying.
As Gaza braces for reconstruction and Israeli families await the return of hostages, Italy’s commitment reflects the global resolve to ensure that this breakthrough becomes a sustainable peace.
