Antisemitic Violence Mars Mexico City Protests Against Jewish Supreme Court President
Israeli leaders condemn hateful graffiti and imagery targeting Claudia Sheinbaum amid escalating unrest.

Protests in Mexico City erupted into violent chaos over the weekend, with disturbing antisemitic imagery aimed at Supreme Court President Claudia Sheinbaum, who is Jewish.
Demonstrators scrawled hateful graffiti on the entrance of the Supreme Court, including slurs and a red X over a Star of David a chilling symbol of religious hatred. One protester was seen wearing a swastika-emblazoned shirt and a ski mask, while others carried chains, rocks, and fireworks. The violent clashes left around 120 people injured, including nearly 100 law enforcement officers.
The unrest was sparked by escalating crime rates and allegations surrounding a series of killings reportedly targeting critics of President Sheinbaum. However, the protests quickly devolved into personal attacks against her Jewish identity, turning political dissent into outright antisemitism.
Despite the overt bigotry on display, Mexican authorities have not publicly addressed the antisemitic nature of the attacks. By contrast, Israeli officials moved swiftly to condemn the incident.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar issued a strong statement on X: “There is no place for such attacks in political discourse. All forms of antisemitism, in any context, must be rejected unequivocally.”
This episode adds to a troubling global trend: Jewish communities increasingly find themselves targeted in protests and public spaces under the guise of political outrage. The hateful symbols in Mexico City echo tactics seen in Europe and the U.S., where antisemitic rhetoric is often masked as criticism of institutions or policies.
Claudia Sheinbaum, a respected figure in Mexican politics, is now at the center of a firestorm that exposes the undercurrents of antisemitism still lurking in societies that claim to uphold tolerance and diversity.
This must be a wake-up call. When swastikas reappear in public demonstrations and Jewish symbols are desecrated on government buildings, silence is not an option. Such acts are not just political statements they are hate crimes, and they demand global condemnation.
