Michael Oren, Ex-Ambassador, Enlists in Galilee Emergency Response Squad

Former Ambassador and Deputy Minister Takes Active Role Amidst Growing Tensions.

As tensions escalate along Israel's northern border, Michael Oren, former Israeli ambassador to the US and former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Office, has joined the Kfar Blum emergency squad in the Galilee. Oren's decision to volunteer comes after a week of heightened conflict with Hezbollah, underscoring his commitment to support his country in times of crisis.

"The residents of the north have been experiencing many difficulties for nine months now with the growing war on the northern border from the direction of Hezbollah—and it has no end in sight," Oren said on Wednesday. "My love for Israel and my desire to help in any way made me put on a uniform for the first time in a decade since I put the uniform in the closet for the last time. As Israeli and Zionist patriots, it is our duty to contribute, each one according to his ability, for the sake of the country."

Oren's involvement was coordinated with the liaison unit of the Upper Galilee Regional Council Authority, the Kfar Blum Chief of Staff, and the members of the standby squad. This collaboration was planned for several weeks prior to the start of his volunteering, highlighting the strategic approach taken to bolster the region's defenses.

Oren, who served in the paratroopers' brigade during the First Lebanon War, will fully participate in Kfar Blum's emergency squad operations. His duties will include guarding static guard posts, conducting mounted patrols, and integrating into the dawn standby of the emergency squad. His military experience and diplomatic skills make him a valuable asset in these challenging times.

In addition to his volunteer service, Oren is actively engaged in addressing the issues facing northern Israel due to the ongoing conflict. About a month ago, he hosted a delegation of evacuees from the North in Washington for a series of meetings at the White House and with members of Congress. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the plight of those affected by the conflict and to garner international support.

Oren's decision to join the emergency squad reflects his deep-seated commitment to Israel and its people. "On normal days, I contribute through advocacy and diplomacy," Oren explained. "Today, I am qualified as a member of the alert class at the northern border, for all that that implies."

As tensions continue to rise in the region, Oren's participation in the emergency squad underscores the critical need for vigilance and preparedness. His involvement serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility shared by Israelis to protect and support their homeland.

In these uncertain times, Israel's resilience and determination remain steadfast. Michael Oren's contributions exemplify the spirit of unity and patriotism that defines the nation.
