Migdal Ohr raises $1.36 million in 36 hours for emergency housing

Global Jewish community rallies to support at-risk Israeli teens with new dorms and shelters.

In just 36 hours, Migdal Ohr’s campaign Every Child Deserves a Home has raised over £1 million ($1.36 million), surpassing expectations and proving the power of collective generosity. The funds will go directly toward building emergency dormitories and bomb shelters for vulnerable Israeli teenagers at Zoharim Youth Village.

From June 22 to 23, 2025, donations flowed in from across the UK, France, Israel, and beyond, reflecting a global commitment to protecting and empowering at-risk youth. “Bringing together our communities showcases our strength as one big family, caring for each other in times of need,” said Amit Fraser, CEO of Migdal Ohr Europe. “This campaign is a testament to the deep compassion and unity that define the global Jewish community.”

Zoharim Youth Village is a lifeline for teenage boys, ages 14 to 18, who have been rejected by the ultra-Orthodox education system and often by their own families. Many of these boys have experienced trauma, neglect, or displacement. At Zoharim, they receive not only shelter but also education, therapy, and a structured environment that helps them rebuild their lives.

The village’s mission is to offer these young men the tools for a successful future: values-based education, pathways to full matriculation, and preparation for IDF service. These programs help transform boys who have been left behind into responsible, contributing members of Israeli society.

The campaign’s success comes at a time when Israel faces heightened security threats following the October 7 attacks, underscoring the urgent need for safe housing for at-risk youth. Fraser noted, “This campaign is about more than building dormitories; it’s about restoring dignity, stability, and hope to children of Israel who have lost so much.”

By funding new dormitories and bomb shelters, Migdal Ohr is ensuring that these boys will have both physical safety and a supportive home an investment in Israel’s future as much as in its present.

The overwhelming response to this fundraising effort highlights the enduring bonds that connect the Jewish people worldwide. It is a reminder that when Israel’s children are in need, the global community steps forward without hesitation.
