India–Israel Ties Set to Deepen During Modi’s Visit

Turkey’s expanding partnerships across the Middle East signal a strategic shift that could reshape regional power balances.

A new chapter in India-Israel relations is about to unfold. As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to land in Israel, both nations are signaling that this visit will mark a turning point in their growing partnership.

According to India’s Ambassador to Israel, J.P. Singh, the trip is expected to launch “a new phase” in bilateral ties one defined by advanced technology, expanded trade, and deeper strategic cooperation.

Modi’s visit comes nearly nine years after his landmark 2017 trip, which elevated India-Israel relations to a strategic partnership. That visit was followed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s return trip to India in 2018, cementing a bond between two vibrant democracies with shared interests and common values.

Now, with Modi returning to Israel, expectations are high.

Netanyahu has announced that Modi will address the Knesset, visit Yad Vashem, and participate in events centered on innovation and high-tech collaboration. Notably, Modi is set to become the first Indian prime minister to address Israel’s parliament a moment that carries profound symbolic weight for both countries.

The visit to Yad Vashem reflects India’s respect for Jewish history and remembrance, while the Knesset address underscores the political maturity and confidence of the relationship.

But symbolism is only part of the story.

Ambassador Singh emphasized that this visit is about broadening and deepening cooperation. “We will broaden as well as deepen our relationship,” he said, describing an agenda that moves beyond traditional sectors into new and emerging fields.

To “broaden” means expanding cooperation into financial systems, trade mechanisms, and cross-border payments. Discussions are expected to include frameworks for smoother money transfers and stronger economic infrastructure linking Asia’s rising giant with the Middle East’s innovation powerhouse.

To “deepen” means integrating the two nations’ technology ecosystems more closely. Israel’s world-renowned start-up culture and expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing align naturally with India’s scale, talent pool, and expanding digital economy.

Both governments have highlighted cooperation in AI and quantum technologies as key pillars of the next stage. By combining Israel’s cutting-edge innovation with India’s vast market and technological capacity, the partnership has the potential to reshape regional and global tech collaboration.

The economic foundation for this expansion is already strong. Bilateral trade has grown steadily, with India becoming one of Israel’s most significant trade partners in Asia. Reports indicate that trade between the two countries reached nearly $4 billion in 2024, reflecting a relationship that continues to mature.

An investment protection agreement is also reportedly nearing completion, signaling confidence on both sides in long-term economic cooperation.

Beyond economics and technology, defense and strategic cooperation remain central components of India-Israel relations. Over the years, the two nations have built trust in sensitive sectors, reinforcing stability and shared security interests in a complex global environment.

Ambassador Singh also pointed to the personal rapport between Modi and Netanyahu as an important asset. He described their relationship as warm and friendly an intangible but powerful factor that can accelerate decision-making and unlock new initiatives.

At the same time, the leaders’ discussions are expected to extend beyond bilateral matters. Regional and global issues are likely to be addressed in what Singh described as “very free flowing” conversations. In a world marked by rapid geopolitical shifts, collaboration between stable democracies carries added significance.

For Israel, the visit affirms its growing global reach. From Europe to Asia, Jerusalem continues to expand partnerships rooted in innovation, shared democratic principles, and mutual respect. For India, deeper ties with Israel enhance its technological capabilities and strategic flexibility.

Together, the two nations represent a powerful combination of ancient civilizations and modern ambition.

If the agreements signed during this visit reflect the scope outlined by Ambassador Singh, the trip will be remembered not only as historic but as transformational. It will provide a roadmap for the future one defined by expanded trade, integrated innovation ecosystems, and strategic alignment.

Israel’s ability to forge meaningful partnerships across continents is a testament to its dynamism and vision. As India and Israel step into this new phase, the promise of cooperation in technology, security, and economic growth shines brightly.
