Moldova Hails Unprecedented Ties with Israel During Historic Diplomatic Visit
Argentina’s president is honored for his staunch pro-Israel stance, as new regional outreach campaign aims to reshape Latin American ties with the Jewish state.

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi declared that relations with Israel “have never been better” during his first-ever official visit to the Jewish state. The landmark statement comes amid a new era of bilateral cooperation fueled by diplomatic, economic, and cultural growth.
Speaking in Jerusalem, Popsoi celebrated Israel’s recent opening of an embassy in Chişinău, Moldova’s capital a move he called a turning point in solidifying the nations’ partnership. “The embassy opening is a clear sign that our relationship is moving in a positive direction,” he said. “It helps consolidate ties, provides essential consular services, and also boosts economic and political cooperation.”
Diplomatic ties between the two countries date back to 1992, but recent developments have accelerated cooperation. There are currently 17 weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Chişinău, fostering strong people-to-people connections. “We look forward to increased Israeli investment in Moldova, more exports to Israel, and greater collaboration in technology and agriculture,” Popsoi noted.
The Moldovan foreign minister also encouraged Israelis to explore Moldova’s countryside, rich Jewish history, and celebrated wine culture. “Many Israelis have roots in Moldova, and we welcome them to explore their heritage and continue building strong bridges between our countries.”
In parallel with deepening ties, Moldova has stood firmly with Israel on the global stage. Popsoi reaffirmed his country’s support for Israel’s right to self-defense particularly in the aftermath of the October 7 terror attacks and praised ongoing efforts to combat antisemitism within Moldova.
Addressing the broader geopolitical landscape, Popsoi condemned Russian interference in Moldova’s recent elections and warned that the Kremlin is using Moldova as a testing ground for destabilization tactics. He stressed the importance of Western support, highlighting Moldova’s transition away from Russian energy dependence and its integration into Europe’s electrical grid through Romania.
Regarding the frozen conflict in Transnistria a pro-Russian breakaway region Popsoi reiterated Moldova’s commitment to sovereignty and national independence. “This is the same old struggle for spheres of influence,” he said, emphasizing that Moldova’s future lies firmly with Europe.
On that note, he expressed high hopes for EU accession. “We’ve lost three decades in our efforts to join the EU. We have no more time to waste,” Popsoi said, vowing to push through vital reforms to meet accession standards within the current European Commission’s term.
From shared democratic values to thriving diaspora ties, Moldova’s strengthening relationship with Israel is not just symbolic it is strategic. As both nations face evolving regional challenges, their bond reflects a common vision of sovereignty, partnership, and mutual prosperity.
