Artists and Influencers Join Forces for Digital Campaign Supporting Hostages

United efforts highlight digital advocacy to free hostages taken by Hamas.

In a remarkable display of solidarity, musicians and influencers have come together to advocate for the hostages abducted from southern Israel by Hamas terrorists on October 7. David Draiman, frontman of the American heavy metal band Disturbed, and musician Montana Tucker were among the panelists at an event in Israel that focused on media and digital advocacy for the hostages.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum hosted a conference titled “Impacting Public Opinion Under Fire” in Sderot. This event featured a panel discussion on how to leverage social media to impact public opinion about the hostages. Panelists included stand-up comedian Daniel-Ryan Spaulding, beauty influencer Ashley Waxman-Bakshi, and TikTok star Daniel Braun, who has over 4 million followers.

“It’s very hard to be one of the only prominent Jews supporting our people during this incredibly difficult time,” said Draiman. Touring Israel and visiting areas affected by the October 7 attacks, Draiman has faced significant personal and professional challenges. He spoke about losing many friends in the music industry due to his unwavering support for Israel, especially in the wake of the recent conflict.

Draiman shared his experiences of strained relationships with fellow musicians Serj Tankian and Tom Morello, both vocal critics of Israel. Despite receiving numerous death threats and needing additional private security, Draiman remains steadfast in his advocacy, stating, “It’s all worth it and I’d do it 1,000 times over.”

Montana Tucker, who wore a gown with a “Bring Them Home” message at the 2024 Grammy Awards, discussed the backlash she faced for her bold statement. She recounted being asked to leave the event and remove her ribbon but stood her ground. “The love I received from the Jewish community was beyond incredible,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to using her platform for this cause.

Ashley Waxman-Bakshi, whose cousin Agam Berger is still held captive by Hamas, has combined her influence and expertise in counterterrorism to meet with global leaders and speak at the United Nations. She highlighted the importance of maintaining digital and diplomatic advocacy simultaneously, using her social media presence to engage politicians and keep the conversation about the hostages ongoing.

The panel discussion underscored the power of digital advocacy in influencing public opinion and garnering international support for the hostages. The full video of the panel discussion is available on the Facebook page of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.
