Netanyahu Defiant Against ICC Arrest Warrant 'No Outrageous Decision Will Stop Me'
Israeli leaders unite to denounce the court’s decision, calling it antisemitic and a reward for terrorism.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fiercely criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) following its decision to issue arrest warrants against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. In a televised address, Netanyahu described the ruling as "biased," calling it an act of "moral bankruptcy" that undermines democracies’ right to defend themselves against terrorism.
“Today is a black day,” Netanyahu stated, emphasizing that the court’s decision ignored the atrocities committed during the October 7 massacre, which saw Israeli citizens brutally attacked, murdered, and kidnapped. He accused the ICC of turning a blind eye to real crimes against humanity, citing the suffering of millions in Iran, Syria, and Yemen, while singling out Israel for condemnation.
Netanyahu called the ruling an "antisemitic step," aimed at deterring Israel from exercising its legitimate right to self-defense. “No outrageous anti-Israel decision will prevent us and will not prevent me from continuing to defend our country in every way,” he vowed.
Gallant also condemned the ICC’s decision, calling it “outrageous” and a mark that “will live in infamy.” Reflecting on his tenure as defense minister, he expressed pride in having led Israel’s defense forces during one of the nation’s most challenging moments.
President Isaac Herzog joined the chorus of criticism, describing the ruling as “a dark day for justice.” Herzog argued that the decision ignores the plight of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and fails to address Israel’s right to respond to an unprovoked attack on its civilians.
Other prominent figures, including opposition leader Yair Lapid, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, voiced similar outrage. They condemned the court for what they called antisemitism and political bias, accusing it of shielding terrorist organizations while targeting Israel.
Katz described the decision as serving “Iran and its proxies,” asserting that Israel would stand firm in defending its citizens and leaders. Smotrich went further, suggesting Israel should cut ties with the ICC entirely and take decisive action against those driving the investigation, including the Palestinian Authority.
The ICC’s ruling has been met with broad condemnation across the Israeli political spectrum. Leaders argue that the decision reflects not only a failure of justice but also a dangerous precedent that rewards terrorism while punishing those who fight to protect freedom and democracy.
The government has pledged to explore all legal and political avenues to challenge the decision and ensure that the rights and safety of its citizens remain a top priority. Israel remains resolute in its defense, refusing to let external pressures undermine its fight against terror.
