‘We Can Defeat the Iranian Axis,’ Netanyahu Declares

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Monday that the defeat of the Iranian axis of terror proxies across the Middle East is “within our means,” as he set out Israel’s war objectives for the coming year.

Speaking in Tel Aviv to Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, and the IDF General Staff Forum, Netanyahu said that 2025 could be “a historic year for the security of Israel.”

“In pursuit of security and victory over our enemies, we need to destroy the Iranian axis,” Netanyahu stated.

The prime minister stressed that bringing the Israel-Hamas War to a close remains a central goal. That includes the elimination of Hamas, the release of hostages, and ensuring that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel.

Netanyahu expressed gratitude to the IDF command and soldiers for their sacrifices and battlefield successes over the past year. “It has been shown to be a magnificent generation that has made many painful sacrifices,” he said, praising the “heroism of this generation, which many have eulogized.”

Looking forward, Netanyahu emphasized that victory will require two qualities above all: unity in moments of crisis and determination in every moment.

He concluded the meeting with a toast: “May we have a year of security, victory, and unity. Happy New Year.”
