Yamam Unit Praised by Netanyahu for Landmark Hostage Rescues in Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid tribute to Yamam, Israel’s elite National Counter-Terrorism Unit, during a special gathering at the unit’s base on Sunday. The event, marking Yamam’s 50th anniversary, was delayed by a year due to the ongoing war but carried a deeper resonance following the unit’s recent high-profile operations in Gaza.

“We are now marking 50 years of operations, breakthroughs, covert cooperation with the best units, and 50 years of saving lives,” Netanyahu told the assembled commanders and soldiers. He described Yamam as “a pillar of our national security” and vowed his full backing as Israel continues its fight against terrorism.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Police Inspector General Dani Levy, and Border Police Commander Yitzhak Brik joined senior military officials to honor the unit’s achievements.

Netanyahu singled out two remarkable rescue operations that captured the world’s attention. Operation Golden Hand and Operation Arnon. The first led to the dramatic rescue of Fernando Marman and Louis Har from captivity in Gaza. The second, named in memory of Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora who fell during the mission, brought home Noa Argamani, Almog Meir, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv.

“These missions are the result of Yamam’s progress and ingenuity,” Netanyahu said, noting the unit’s close cooperation with the IDF and Shin Bet. For decades, Yamam has been at the forefront of Israel’s defense, carrying out daring operations deep in enemy territory.

The prime minister assured the unit of his complete trust, promising not to cancel a single mission. “I rely on you, the people of Israel rely on you, and the Government of Israel relies on you,” he declared.

As Yamam marks half a century of service, its record speaks to Israel’s determination to protect its people under the most difficult circumstances. The unit’s legendary operations remind the world of Israel’s unwavering resolve to save lives and defeat terror.
