Netanyahu Calls for Regional Alliance Against Iran: 'Our Enemies Are Your Enemies'

Prime Minister Proposes Abraham Alliance to Strengthen Middle Eastern Security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a historic address to a joint session of Congress, advocating for a regional military alliance to counter Iran's influence and threats. Netanyahu emphasized that all nations at peace with Israel, and those seeking peace, should unite in this effort, proposing the formation of what he called the Abraham Alliance.

“We saw a glimpse of that alliance in April,” Netanyahu said, referring to the coordinated defense by five armies against an Iranian missile and drone attack on Israel. He likened this new alliance to a Middle Eastern version of NATO, drawing parallels to the post-World War II security alliance forged by the United States in Europe to counter the Soviet threat.

Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Joe Biden for his crucial role in the April defense and acknowledged former President Donald Trump for brokering the Abraham Accords. “Israel will always remain America's indispensable ally,” Netanyahu affirmed, thanking the U.S. for its unwavering support and solidarity.

Highlighting the shared threat posed by Iran, Netanyahu declared, “Iran sees America as its greatest enemy.” He detailed Iran’s hostile actions since 1979, including hostage-taking, killing U.S. servicemen, and plotting assassinations of former U.S. officials. “Standing in Iran's way is one proud pro-American democracy—my country, the State of Israel,” Netanyahu stated.

Netanyahu emphasized the intertwined fates of Israel and the U.S., stating, “Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, our victories will be your victories.” He noted that defeating Hamas would significantly weaken the axis of terror supported by Iran, which includes Hezbollah and the Houthis.

In his speech, Netanyahu called for the fast-tracking of military aid to help Israel defeat Hamas, end the Gaza war, and prevent a broader conflict in the Middle East. He referenced the joint defense and intelligence cooperation that protects both nations, asserting, “We help keep U.S. boots off the ground while protecting our citizens in the Middle East.”

Outside the Capitol, anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated against Netanyahu, with some Democratic members of Congress boycotting the speech. However, inside the chamber, Netanyahu received overwhelming support and multiple standing ovations.

Netanyahu referenced the October 7 Hamas-led invasion, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and numerous hostages. He vowed to secure the release of all hostages, expressing confidence in the ongoing efforts.

Pointing to the long history of persecution faced by Jews, Netanyahu declared, “Never again must never be an empty promise; it must always remain a sacred vow.” He condemned anti-Israel protesters and stressed the importance of distinguishing between good and evil, especially in the face of rising anti-Semitism.

Netanyahu concluded by reinforcing Israel’s commitment to self-defense and victory. “Israel will fight until we destroy Hamas’ military capabilities and its rule in Gaza and bring all our hostages home. That's what total victory means, and we will settle for nothing less,” he stated, affirming that Jerusalem will remain Israel’s “eternal capital” and “will never be divided again.”
