Netanyahu Heads to Washington for First Meeting with Trump

Israeli PM calls White House visit a ‘very important meeting’ for regional security and diplomacy.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for Washington, D.C., on Sunday morning, ahead of his first official meeting with President Donald Trump since the latter’s return to office. The high-profile White House visit is scheduled for Tuesday, marking Trump’s first foreign leader meeting since his inauguration on January 20.

“This is a very important meeting,” Netanyahu told reporters before boarding his flight at Ben Gurion International Airport. “The fact that President Trump chose to meet with Israel’s prime minister first is a testament to the strength of the Israeli-American alliance and to the strength of our personal friendship.”

Netanyahu expressed confidence that his government and the Trump administration will work to expand the historic Abraham Accords, further transforming Middle East diplomacy.

“The friendship and cooperation between Israel and the U.S. have already brought four peace treaties between Israel and its Arab neighbors,” Netanyahu said. “I believe that by working closely with President Trump, we can continue redrawing the map of the Middle East for the better.”

The Iranian threat and ongoing ceasefires with Hamas and Hezbollah will be central topics of discussion between the two leaders. Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to a “peace through strength” policy.

“In this meeting, we will address critical issues: victory over Hamas, securing the release of all hostages, and confronting Iran’s terror axis that threatens Israel, the Middle East, and the world.”

With U.S.-Israel relations stronger than ever, this visit marks a pivotal moment in shaping the next phase of regional security and diplomatic efforts.
