Trump Invites Netanyahu as First Foreign Leader to White House
White House visit underscores the renewed U.S.-Israel alliance under Trump’s leadership.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been invited to the White House on February 4, marking him as the first foreign leader to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in his second term. The invitation, confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office, highlights the deep and immediate priority Trump is placing on strengthening U.S.-Israel ties.
“The most pro-Israel president picking up right where he left off: making the U.S.-Israel relationship great again,” the Republican Jewish Coalition remarked on the historic visit.
Unlike his predecessor, Joe Biden, who took 20 months before welcoming Netanyahu to the White House, Trump is wasting no time in reaffirming the strategic alliance. Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) praised the decision, stating, “I look forward to working with President Trump and the prime minister on securing the release of the hostages and continuing the strategic objectives to secure the region.”
While the Trump administration has not yet officially commented on the visit, the president hinted at the upcoming meeting while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One. “I’m going to be speaking with Bibi Netanyahu in the not-too-distant future,” Trump said.
An image of an invitation allegedly signed by Trump has been circulating on social media. Dated January 28, the letter states, “I would like to formally invite you to the White House next week. I look forward to discussing how we can bring peace to Israel and its neighbors, and efforts to counter our shared adversaries.”
David May, a senior analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, noted the significance of this immediate invitation. “Biden and Trump started their presidencies at very different points in Israeli politics,” May explained. “Trump began his second term with Israel at war against genocidal enemies, making this meeting all the more crucial.”
Representative Andy Barr (R-Ky.) also applauded the decision, emphasizing, “It’s crucial that America stands with our key ally, Israel, to promote security, stability, and our shared democratic values in the region.”
As Netanyahu prepares for this high-profile meeting, expectations are high for discussions on hostages, security cooperation, and broader regional challenges. This visit signals a renewed era of U.S.-Israel relations under Trump’s leadership.
