Nvidia plans multibillion-dollar tech campus in Israel

Chip giant’s massive expansion to create thousands of jobs and cement Israel’s AI leadership.

Nvidia, the American tech powerhouse and now the world’s most valuable company at $4 trillion, is set to massively expand its footprint in Israel with plans to build a multibillion-dollar technology campus in the north of the country. The project will make Nvidia the largest high-tech employer in Israel, further bolstering the country’s reputation as a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced computing.

The proposed campus, potentially spanning up to 180,000 square meters, will be located near the company’s existing R&D center in Yokneam, just outside Haifa. Nvidia’s expansion is expected to create thousands of new jobs and inject fresh momentum into Israel’s high-tech sector, particularly in the north an area still recovering from last year’s conflict with Hezbollah.

“This is a long-term strategic investment in Israel, and is a great sign of confidence in the Israeli tech industry,” said Dror Bin, CEO of the Israel Innovation Authority. Yariv Becher of Startup Nation Central echoed this sentiment, adding, “It shows the important role that Israeli high-tech plays in the technological revolution.”

Since acquiring Mellanox Technologies for nearly $7 billion in 2020, Nvidia has rapidly expanded in Israel, establishing seven cutting-edge labs from north to south. Many of the company’s most advanced AI processors and networking chips, now driving the global AI boom, are developed in its Israeli R&D centers.

Earlier this year, Nvidia unveiled plans for a $500 million AI research and engineering data center in Israel, housing the country’s most powerful AI supercomputer. With over 5,000 employees in Israel around 15% of its global workforce and 250 new positions open, the company’s growth trajectory in the country shows no sign of slowing.

The new campus is expected to double Nvidia’s workforce in Israel, overtaking Intel, which has dominated the country’s tech scene for decades but is now scaling back its global operations. Experts say the ripple effect of this expansion will extend well beyond the tech sector, driving investor confidence and fueling the local economy.

“The economic implications and benefits reach far beyond tech companies and send a clear signal to global investors that Israel is a place to watch,” said Becher.

During two years of war with Hamas, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has voiced steadfast support for his Israeli employees, with the company donating $15 million to assist Israel in the wake of the conflict. This latest investment underscores both a commitment to its Israeli workforce and confidence in the nation’s ability to remain at the forefront of AI innovation.

When construction begins in the coming months, Nvidia’s Israeli operations will become its second-largest global hub, after its U.S. headquarters a testament to Israel’s unrivaled talent pool and thriving tech ecosystem.
