Ozzy Osbourne’s Jewish Connections and Affection for Israel Honored After His Passing at 76

The legendary rocker’s deep connection to Jewish culture and his defiance of boycotts made him a beloved figure in Israel.

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away on Tuesday at age 76, is being remembered around the world not only for his groundbreaking contributions to music but also for his profound respect and love for Israel and the Jewish people. His connection to Judaism was rooted in his marriage to Sharon Osbourne, daughter of Jewish music impresario Don Arden.

Sharon, who has openly embraced her Jewish heritage, once explained, “Judaism is the only religion I have and the only one I’m comfortable with,” adding that Jewish values were central to their household. Ozzy, known for his curious and outspoken nature, would often ask, “Why don’t people like Jews?” a question Sharon said reflected his confusion about modern antisemitism.

Osbourne’s bond with Israel was evident throughout his career. The Black Sabbath frontman performed in the country twice, first in 2010 at Ozzfest in Tel Aviv and again in 2018 during his farewell “No More Tours 2” tour. Ahead of his first concert, he and Sharon visited the Western Wall and Yad Vashem. “We were very pleased to have the opportunity to come to Israel and visit the holy sites,” Ozzy told The Jewish Chronicle.

Even as calls for international artists to boycott Israel grew louder, Ozzy refused to give in. “I try to stay away from politics. They don’t understand me, and I don’t understand them,” he said. Sharon, never one to mince words, added, “I’m half a Heeb. We play where we want to play. That’s it.”

In 2025, the Osbournes joined over 200 public figures in signing an open letter condemning the BBC documentary Gaza. How to Survive a Warzone, accusing the network of “systematic bias against Israel.” Their vocal support further solidified Ozzy’s reputation as a friend of the Jewish state.

Despite his declining health in later years, Osbourne’s Israeli concerts drew massive crowds and were credited with encouraging other international rock icons to perform in the country. Following news of his passing, Israeli fans flooded social media with tributes, sharing images of Ozzy at the Western Wall and on stage in Tel Aviv, celebrating his unwavering connection to Israel.

Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy is one of defiance, authenticity, and an enduring respect for Jewish culture and history a rock star whose music and values resonated far beyond the stage.
