PM Pledges to Restore Northern Security ‘With or Without Agreement’ During Border Visit

Netanyahu Stresses Military and Diplomatic Measures Against Hezbollah Threat.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a bold statement during his visit to Israel's northern border on Sunday, pledging to restore security in the area "with or without an agreement" with Lebanon. Addressing top military commanders, Netanyahu emphasized the importance of pushing the Hezbollah terror group beyond the Litani River and preventing its rearmament.

Netanyahu, accompanied by IDF Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, underscored the urgency of enforcing this strategy through military strength and sustained pressure on Hezbollah’s supply lines from Iran via Syria. “In simple words: enforcement, enforcement, enforcement,” he declared.

The prime minister’s visit came amidst heightened tensions, as over 100 projectiles were launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Sunday alone. Although many were intercepted, the barrage continued to displace tens of thousands of Israeli citizens from their homes.

Standing at the border, Netanyahu noted the audible evidence of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s infrastructure, which he claimed was intended for a potential invasion more severe than the Hamas-led massacres on October 7, 2023.

Israel has been coordinating with U.S. officials, including senior White House aides Brett McGurk and Amos Hochstein, to discuss a potential ceasefire. Reports suggest that a ceasefire agreement could be reached within the next two weeks, aiming to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which bans Hezbollah from southern Lebanon.

Despite diplomatic efforts, Israel has made it clear that it will not hesitate to act militarily should the need arise. The ongoing conflict has seen an increase in IDF ground operations in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops have been actively engaging Hezbollah fighters.

During his visit, Netanyahu also took time to acknowledge the sacrifices of IDF reservists, many of whom have been away from their families for extended periods. He assured them that government plans are underway to provide additional support for both the soldiers and their families.

The prime minister’s intended visit to the border town of Metula was abruptly canceled due to a drone attack from Lebanon. Despite the change in plans, Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to the region’s security and vowed continued action to protect Israeli citizens from the Hezbollah threat.
