Police Rescue Toddler From Locked Car in Yavne

A mother's tearful call from Tel Aviv sent Yavne officers racing to a station parking lot, where they broke a window to reach her son.

Israel Police officers rescued a toddler from a locked car at the Yavne train station on Wednesday, The Jerusalem Post reports. The call came from the child's mother, who had already gotten off the train in Tel Aviv when she realized what had happened. "I forgot my child in the car," the woman told the police, tearfully. "He's in the parking lot at the Yavne train station, and I'm already in Tel Aviv. Someone needs to break into the car and get him. His preschool teacher is already on the way there."

JFeed reports that officers from the Yavne station in the Shfela District reached the parking lot within minutes of the call. They found the boy flushed and red-faced and in acute distress, The Jerusalem Post reports. The officers shattered the car window and pulled him out. JFeed reports the child was taken for medical checks and is in good condition.

Police used the rescue to repeat a plain warning, according to JFeed. They urged drivers to make sure the car is empty at the end of every trip and never to leave a child alone in a vehicle, not even for a moment.

The Jerusalem Post notes this was the latest in a string of cases of children forgotten or trapped in cars. In August, the paper reports, United Hatzalah warned about the danger of hot cars after a 5-year-old boy died when he was left inside his family's car in Lod for about two hours. "It can happen to loving, responsible parents," the organization warned. "Before you leave your car, stop for one second and look in the back seat."

The numbers show how often this happens. According to data from Beterem, Safe Kids Israel, cited by The Jerusalem Post, 23 children died in such incidents between 2021 and 2025. Another 53 were injured and survived, and in 1,513 more cases children were rescued in time and unharmed. On Wednesday in Yavne, a quick call and quick officers added one more to that last column.
