Israeli Defense Company Launches Cutting-Edge Laser Defense System for Ground Vehicles
Rafael’s Lite Beam system offers high-tech protection against aerial threats, including drones.
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Israeli company behind the Iron Dome, has unveiled a groundbreaking laser defense system for ground vehicles known as Lite Beam. This new technology aims to neutralize drones and other aerial threats with unparalleled precision and cost efficiency. Rafael will showcase Lite Beam at the AUSA 2024 conference in Washington, D.C., from October 14 to 16.
The Lite Beam system is part of Rafael’s broader Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) platform, which combines advanced detection and interception technologies to provide robust defense capabilities. According to Rafael, Lite Beam’s laser technology offers several key advantages, including engagement at the speed of light, an unlimited magazine, and minimal cost per interception, setting a new standard in defense technology.
In a statement shared on social media, Rafael described Lite Beam as a "game-changing system" for protecting forces on the ground. The system can swiftly and accurately neutralize threats like drone swarms, enhancing both defense and operational success in dynamic battle conditions.
Lite Beam is only one component of Rafael’s layered defense strategy. Another critical element of the C-UAS system is the Samson 30mm Remote Weapon Station (RWS), which provides mobile and flexible solutions for ground forces to counter UAVs and other airborne threats.
Rafael emphasized that these technologies are designed to adapt to ever-changing battlefield conditions. While the company has confirmed that Lite Beam has undergone testing, it has not disclosed whether the system has been used by Israel’s military in recent operations in Gaza or Lebanon.
In addition to Lite Beam, Rafael will highlight the success of its TROPHY Active Protection System (APS) at the conference. TROPHY is capable of neutralizing heavier threats, including anti-tank missiles, RPGs, and UAVs.
“This latest presentation at AUSA highlights Rafael’s ongoing commitment to delivering advanced battlefield defense solutions,” said Tzvi Marmor, EVP & General Manager of Rafael’s Land & Naval Systems Division. “As global threats evolve, we continue to equip armed forces with cutting-edge technologies to ensure operational superiority in diverse and challenging environments.”
