Government Allocates NIS 180 Million to Rebuild Kfar Aza

Rehabilitation plan includes new homes, public facilities, and infrastructure for the Gaza border kibbutz devastated by Hamas attacks.

The Tekuma Directorate has approved a budget of NIS 180 million ($48 million) to rebuild Kibbutz Kfar Aza, one of the communities hardest hit by the October 7 Hamas terror attack. The announcement, made on Monday, marks a significant step in the rehabilitation of Gaza border communities devastated by the violence.

Kfar Aza suffered deeply during the attack, losing 62 residents in horrifying circumstances. Of the 19 people abducted by Hamas, 11 have returned, two were tragically killed, and five remain in captivity. The community’s recovery plan is being led by its members, who are currently relocating to temporary housing in Kibbutz Ruhama in southern Israel.

The extensive rebuilding project includes the rehabilitation of 360 residential buildings and 40 public structures, alongside major infrastructure repairs. A new neighborhood of 55 single-family homes will be constructed, along with a 60-unit complex for young residents to replace the badly damaged young people’s area. Public facilities will also be rebuilt and upgraded, with plans for new roads, parking areas, landscaped open spaces, and improved sports and recreation facilities.

Kfar Aza’s tragedy is not isolated. Monday also saw the first official meeting to discuss the rehabilitation of Kibbutz Nir Oz, another Gaza border community that suffered immense losses. Approximately one-quarter of Nir Oz's 400 residents were killed or abducted during the attacks, and its homes and structures were heavily damaged. Discussions included plans to memorialize those who were murdered, ensuring that the community's history of resilience and sacrifice is honored.

This reconstruction effort is a vital step in supporting these communities as they strive to rebuild their lives. It reflects Israel's unwavering commitment to its citizens and the enduring spirit of its people.
