Ron Dermer Resigns from Government After Pivotal Years of Service

Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer has officially stepped down from his post, closing a chapter of service that spanned some of the most challenging years in Israel’s modern history.

In his resignation letter submitted Tuesday, Dermer emphasized the gravity of the period he helped navigate, writing, “This government will be remembered both for the October 7 attack and for its management of the two-and-a-half-year-long war and the seven fronts that followed.”

Dermer noted that he initially agreed to serve for two years, having made a personal commitment to his family. Twice he extended that commitment with their blessing but now, he says, the time has come to step away.

His letter carried a tone of humility and gratitude. “With this blessing comes a sacred responsibility: to secure this dream for future generations,” he wrote. “I feel immense gratitude that I had the privilege of serving the State of Israel and dedicating myself to this noble responsibility.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded warmly to Dermer’s resignation, thanking him for his service and expressing confidence that Dermer will continue to contribute meaningfully to the State of Israel in the future.

Known as one of Netanyahu’s closest and most trusted advisors, Dermer played a central role in Israel’s strategic decision-making throughout multiple crises, including the aftermath of the October 7 attacks and the ongoing regional conflict that has tested the strength and unity of the Jewish state.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also offered his appreciation, saying, “Wishing you great success, Ron.”
