Rubio Expected to Visit Israel for Historic City of David Event
U.S. Secretary of State hints at September trip amid strong support for Israel and rejection of Palestinian diplomatic access.

U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio is reportedly set to visit Israel on September 14, with sources suggesting he will attend the inauguration of the “Pilgrims’ Road” archaeological site in Jerusalem’s historic City of David.
While the State Department has not officially confirmed the visit, a member of Rubio’s inner circle said, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Not long after, Rubio himself posted a cryptic tweet featuring smoke and fire emojis separated by an equal sign adding fuel to speculation.
The centerpiece of his expected visit is the grand opening of Pilgrims’ Road, a Roman-era street that once connected Jerusalem’s southern gates to the Temple Mount. The road, a remarkable archaeological discovery, has been meticulously excavated over recent years and is seen as a symbol of Jewish historical continuity in Jerusalem.
Rubio’s presence at the event would reinforce his longstanding support for Israel and highlight Washington’s continued backing of the Jewish state’s cultural and national heritage.
The visit also follows his recent announcement barring Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization officials from attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Rubio stated last week that the Palestinians are “not currently a partner for peace,” signaling a firm policy stance aligned with Israel’s security concerns.
Rubio last visited Israel in February during a regional tour that included Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. His diplomatic travels have been limited since taking on his dual roles in May, though he is currently in Mexico and Ecuador, and is scheduled to join President Donald Trump on a diplomatic mission to the United Kingdom the same week as his reported Israel visit.
The impending trip comes at a critical time. While President Trump continues to support Israel’s military goals in Gaza, he has also called for a resolution to the conflict. Rubio’s appearance at the City of David will serve as both a diplomatic and symbolic gesture one emphasizing unwavering U.S.-Israel ties rooted not only in modern politics but in ancient history.
