Trump and MBS Hint at Breakthrough Toward Saudi–Israel Normalization
A historic Abraham Accords expansion may be within reach, with Saudi Arabia signaling readiness amid US assurances on Israeli security.

In a potentially historic development, President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signaled a conditional breakthrough this week that could bring the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia into the Abraham Accords further reshaping the Middle East’s diplomatic landscape and strengthening regional alignment around peace and progress.
Following a high-stakes meeting at the White House, both leaders spoke optimistically about the trajectory of Saudi–Israel relations. “We are close to something that will make everyone very happy, including the Israelis and the Palestinians,” Trump stated. The crown prince confirmed the Kingdom’s willingness to join the Abraham Accords, though he reiterated Riyadh’s desire to see a two-state solution included in the broader vision.
If realized, this agreement would represent a monumental diplomatic shift. Israel and Saudi Arabia, long viewed as unlikely partners, appear closer than ever to establishing formal ties. Trump also announced massive Saudi economic investments in the United States potentially reaching one trillion dollars further cementing the deepening strategic relationship.
The question of Israel’s qualitative military edge was front and center, particularly regarding Saudi Arabia’s interest in purchasing advanced American F-35 fighter jets. Trump was unequivocal in addressing Israeli concerns: “Israel will be happy. Israel is aware.” He acknowledged that while both nations are close allies, discussions are ongoing about ensuring any arms deals maintain Israel’s technological superiority a foundational pillar of Israeli-American defense policy.
In addition to the F-35 sale, the United States and Saudi Arabia finalized a comprehensive security pact. The agreement includes enhanced military cooperation, a commitment to prioritize U.S. firms in Saudi nuclear projects, and American oversight of all nuclear enrichment activities. These terms aim to ensure that any civilian nuclear developments will be tightly controlled and transparent a key Israeli demand in past negotiations.
Notably, the pact also covers access to advanced U.S. technologies, including artificial intelligence systems and up to 300 American-made tanks. Trump emphasized that the deal is structured to support both Saudi and Israeli security interests without compromising Israel’s strategic advantage.
Beyond military and economic alignment, the leaders also discussed Saudi Arabia’s potential role in Gaza’s future. Trump said the crown prince pledged significant support for Gaza’s reconstruction, offering both political and financial backing for regional stability.
While nothing is finalized, the diplomatic momentum is unmistakable. The groundwork laid before October 7 has evolved, and both Washington and Riyadh now appear ready to move forward. Israeli officials continue to monitor developments closely, emphasizing that any normalization must advance peace, reinforce Israel’s military edge, and include genuine safeguards.
This moment signals more than political cooperation it reflects a growing recognition across the region that stability, prosperity, and shared progress depend on bold choices. As talks progress, the possibility of an expanded Abraham Accords is no longer theoretical. It’s within reach.
