Israel’s Sheba Medical Center Ranked 9th Among World’s Smartest Hospitals

Israeli innovation in AI-powered healthcare earns Sheba a top-ten spot among the world’s most advanced hospitals.

Israel’s Sheba Medical Center has once again secured its place among the most advanced hospitals in the world, rising to #9 in the 2026 Newsweek/Statista World's Best Smart Hospitals rankings. This marks the fifth straight year Sheba has appeared in the elite global list and the only Israeli institution to do so standing shoulder to shoulder with world-renowned medical leaders like the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Massachusetts General Hospital.

The recognition highlights Sheba’s pioneering role in integrating cutting-edge technologies into daily clinical practice through its ARC Innovation Center. At the forefront of this transformation is Project K, the world’s first AI-powered emergency department, which automatically compiles patient histories, recommends diagnostic tests, and helps triage cases based on severity.

“Sheba’s medical innovation and the artificial intelligence revolution that we are leading in the healthcare world are not only a national asset but also powerful growth engines for Israeli society and the economy,” said Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Director General and CEO of Sheba Medical Center. “This ranking is proof that Israel’s future lies in its creativity and excellence.”

The hospital’s comprehensive approach to smart healthcare includes a dedicated AI and Data Center and the Sheba AI Academy, which is now training all medical staff to become fully “AI-enabled.” These initiatives support rapid development and deployment of advanced diagnostic and treatment solutions tailored to the needs of individual patients.

Sheba’s impact extends far beyond Israel’s borders. Through collaborations with the Mayo Clinic’s Connect platform and hospitals in Brazil, Canada, and the United States, the institution is exporting its innovation globally. A recent partnership with the state of Massachusetts focuses on using artificial intelligence to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in modern medicine.

ARC’s ecosystem continues to produce breakthrough startups like AIDOC, which accelerates stroke detection and is now deployed in over 1,400 hospitals worldwide, and LIV/Mentally, an AI-based mental health decision support system that offers personalized care plans.

Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Sheba’s VP of AI and Digital Transformation and Director of ARC, emphasized the pace of change: “We are witnessing a dramatic acceleration in the implementation of advanced technologies in medicine. We take real-world ideas, transform them into data-driven AI solutions, and implement them quickly into the healthcare system. This is the future of smart and personalized medicine.”

The Smart Hospital rankings assess 350 hospitals across 28 countries, combining expert peer recommendations with comprehensive evaluations of AI, robotics, telemedicine, digital imaging, and electronic health records. Sheba’s rise in the rankings underscores not just its commitment to technological excellence but its position as a global leader in redefining healthcare delivery.

Israel’s Sheba Medical Center continues to exemplify how Israeli innovation can drive meaningful, global transformation in medicine placing the Jewish state at the very heart of tomorrow’s healthcare revolution.
