Israel Blocks 85 Iranian Cyberattacks Targeting Civilians and Officials
Shin Bet reveals coordinated Iranian effort to gather data for potential physical attacks inside Israel.

In a stark reminder of the ever-evolving threats facing the Jewish state, Israel’s Shin Bet has thwarted 85 Iranian-led cyberattacks targeting civilians and officials in recent months. The attacks, which focused on data collection for possible physical assaults within Israel, mark a concerning escalation in Iran’s hybrid warfare tactics.
Working in close coordination with the National Cyber Directorate, the Shin Bet identified a pattern of attempted infiltrations aimed at individuals in sensitive or high-profile roles. Among the targets were senior defense officials, political leaders, journalists, academics, and media professionals.
“The purpose is clear gathering private information to facilitate future attacks inside Israel,” a Shin Bet official confirmed. These cyber intrusions sought access to personal devices, including smartphones and computers, to extract critical data such as home addresses, social networks, and travel routines.
Most of the attempted breaches began with carefully crafted messages sent via WhatsApp, Telegram, or email. Disguised as routine professional communications, they often included links that mimicked Google Meet sessions or other familiar tools. Clicking the links would redirect the user to a fake login page, allowing attackers to steal credentials and access emails, saved passwords, photos, and location history.
In other cases, malware was embedded in documents disguised as legitimate work files, exploiting trust to gain access to the victim’s systems.
“This is not just cyber espionage it’s cyberterrorism,” the Shin Bet stated. “Iran is weaponizing the digital domain to identify and potentially target Israelis at their most personal and vulnerable levels.”
The agency emphasized the importance of digital awareness. “Cyberattacks can be prevented with vigilance. Avoid opening suspicious links, and treat every unexpected message with caution,” an official warned.
Israel's intelligence services are maintaining heightened coordination to counter these threats. By preemptively identifying and blocking Iranian cyber operations, they are reinforcing a national defense that now extends into the digital battlefield.
This revelation serves as a powerful reminder: while Israel’s enemies seek new ways to sow fear, the nation remains vigilant, united, and always ready to defend its people.
