President Herzog Praises Sylvan Adams for $100M Contribution to Soroka Medical Center
Landmark donation to war-damaged hospital hailed as “a powerful message of healing.”

In the heart of Beersheba, a symbol of healing and strength is rising from the ashes thanks to a monumental act of generosity. Canadian-Israeli philanthropist Sylvan Adams has pledged $100 million toward rebuilding the Soroka University Medical Center, severely damaged earlier this year in a brutal missile attack from Iran. This unprecedented donation is part of a public-private partnership that includes the Government of Israel and Clalit Health Services.
President Isaac Herzog personally commended Adams for what he described as a “historic partnership,” emphasizing the enormous national significance of this contribution. In a heartfelt letter, Herzog expressed “deep gratitude for your unprecedented gift to the people of the Negev, and in fact – to the whole of Israel.” The donation, he wrote, was not merely financial but “a powerful message of healing,” that speaks directly to the spirit of the Israeli people.
Soroka, the only major hospital serving Israel’s vast southern region, has long been a lifeline for millions. Its strategic and humanitarian importance has only grown amidst recent regional threats. Adams’s gift will not only restore the hospital it will elevate it. Plans include a full reconstruction with cutting-edge technologies, expanded emergency services, and advanced medical infrastructure, transforming Soroka into one of the most advanced facilities in the Middle East.
“This project is a collective act of healing and renewal,” said Adams in response to the President’s letter. “Together, we are building a stronger and more compassionate nation.”
President Herzog highlighted Adams’s visionary commitment to Israel, calling it “a legacy as a builder of Israel and a dedicated servant of your people.” The significance of such a partnership cannot be overstated it is a shining example of how individual initiative, aligned with national purpose, can directly impact lives and shape the future of the country.
As Israel continues to confront growing security and healthcare challenges, this act of philanthropy stands out as a remarkable demonstration of unity, compassion, and belief in the nation's future. It reaffirms a simple yet profound truth. Israel thrives when its people and friends around the world join hands to create, repair, and uplift.
