Terrorists fire rockets from Syria into Israel’s Golan Heights

IDF responds with airstrikes on Syrian weapons depot after latest cross-border attack.

In a renewed escalation of regional tensions, terrorists based in southern Syria launched two rockets at Israel’s Golan Heights late Tuesday night, triggering air-raid sirens and sending residents in Haspin and Ramat Magshimim racing for shelter. Fortunately, both projectiles struck open areas, causing no injuries or damage, according to the IDF.

The rocket fire marked the first such attack from Syrian territory since May and was met with swift retaliation. IDF artillery units and fighter jets targeted a weapons depot linked to the Syrian regime in the country's south. The military reaffirmed that the regime in Damascus bears full responsibility for any hostilities originating from Syrian soil.

“The IDF will operate against every threat posed to the State of Israel,” the army said in a statement. Defense Minister Israel Katz was even more direct, warning Syria’s leadership that “a full response will come soon” and declaring that Israel will not allow a return to the pre-October 7 reality of unchecked threats along its borders.

Meanwhile, Syrian officials denied involvement, claiming there was no proof the rockets had been fired from within Syria and accusing Israel of causing destruction in Daraa, a city struck during the IDF’s response. Still, the IDF remains clear it will act decisively to neutralize threats and maintain regional security.

This attack follows last week’s Israeli strikes on surface-to-air missiles and weapons storage facilities in Syria’s Latakia Governorate, aimed at defending international and Israeli maritime navigation from emerging threats.

Complicating matters further is Syria’s evolving political landscape. Since the ouster of the Assad regime in December 2024 by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group previously linked to Al-Qaeda, the country has seen increased instability. Israel has since bolstered its strategic positions inside and near the Golan buffer zone, seeking to ensure that sensitive military assets do not fall into hostile hands.

While Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has claimed to pursue indirect talks with Jerusalem, Tuesday’s rocket attack underscores the persistent volatility on Israel’s northern front and the IDF’s unwavering readiness to defend its people.
