Syrian Druze Offer to Assist Israel in Gaza War
Former Israeli Minister reveals Druze willingness to cooperate against regional threats.
Druze communities in Syria have offered to assist Israel in its ongoing war in Gaza, according to Ayoub Kara, a former Israeli communication minister and Likud MK. Speaking to Radio 103FM on Monday, Kara revealed that Syrian Druze leaders approached senior Israeli officials, expressing their willingness to cooperate.
“There was a delegation from the Druze villages in Syria that met with senior officials in our government,” Kara stated. “They raised this issue not just now, but also seven months ago. They were willing to help the State of Israel.”
Kara emphasized that the Druze community in southern Syria holds significant strategic importance for Israel. Historically, Israeli leaders viewed the Druze presence as a natural security buffer, a perspective that dates back to the War of Independence.
While dismissing claims that he advocated for annexing parts of southern Syria, Kara clarified his position, suggesting alternative measures to strengthen security along Israel’s northern border. One option involves pressuring influential powers that control Syrian policy to establish a Druze autonomy allied with Israel. Such an arrangement, he argued, could deter terrorist elements from encroaching on Israeli territory.
Another option, Kara noted, would involve integrating Druze residents currently living in Syrian-controlled regions of the Golan Heights with Israel’s Druze communities. “They can integrate with the Golan residents themselves,” he explained, referring to the longstanding bond between Israel and its Druze citizens.
The Druze community, a small yet influential religious minority, has maintained close ties with Israel for decades. Druze citizens in Israel have served loyally in the IDF and contributed significantly to the state’s security and society. Their support in the face of regional instability underscores Israel’s strong relationship with Druze communities both domestically and across the region.
This development highlights the complex alliances forming in the Middle East as various groups seek security and stability amid ongoing conflict. It further reaffirms the Druze commitment to maintaining peaceful coexistence and collaboration with the Jewish State.
