Taiwan FM Stresses Importance of Tech and Intel Cooperation with Israel

Cooperation in defense and security essential amid rising regional tensions.

Intelligence exchanges and technology cooperation between Taiwan and Israel are essential to counter shared threats, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung. During a meeting in Taipei, Lin emphasized the importance of these collaborations, particularly in the realms of national defense and security.

“For Taiwan’s relations with Israel, intelligence exchanges are a must, and technology cooperation is very important,” Lin stated, highlighting that both nations face persistent regional challenges. Taiwan, which has long endured threats of invasion from China, sees parallels with Israel’s security issues in the Middle East.

Taiwan is facing increasing aggression from China, particularly as Beijing seeks to assert control over the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea. Tensions have also escalated between China and the Philippines, with accusations of “dangerous actions” at sea heightening regional anxiety. Earlier this month, Taipei sharply rebuked Chinese President Xi Jinping’s claim that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

Lin framed China as part of a broader coalition of authoritarian regimes—what he referred to as the "Axis of Evil" or CRINK (China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea) that are increasingly interconnected. He pointed to mechanisms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and the Global South framework as platforms these countries use to strengthen their ties.

“This is why I believe that Taiwan is not alone,” Lin said. “All countries are facing similar issues. With our interconnected economies, Taiwan can better support our values-based diplomacy.”

For Taiwan, deepening cooperation with Israel, especially in intelligence and technological innovation, is seen as critical in maintaining its sovereignty and security as tensions with China continue to rise.
