Drone Donated by Teaneck, NJ Jews Played Key Role in Locating Sinwa

Community effort provides critical support to Israeli forces in Gaza.

A group of Jewish residents in Teaneck, New Jersey, made a remarkable contribution to Israel’s defense by donating a drone that played a key role in locating Yahya Sinwar, the senior Hamas leader in Gaza. The drone, equipped with thermal imaging, was instrumental in identifying a group of terrorists, including Sinwar, in the Gaza Strip, according to The Daily Wire.

The initiative began when Chaim Meisels, an American reservist serving with the 828th Bislamach Brigade in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), visited a synagogue in Teaneck. After the October 7 Hamas attacks, Meisels shared the pressing need for additional equipment, including drones, to aid in Israel’s defense efforts.

Moved by his account, a local family and synagogue members rallied to raise approximately $10,000 through the rabbi’s discretionary fund and contributions from donors in another state. The funds were used to purchase drones, including a DJI Mavic outfitted with advanced thermal imaging technology.

One of these drones became pivotal in the IDF’s operation. It first identified a group of terrorists that included Sinwar, allowing the IDF to target the location. After Sinwar fled into a nearby building, a different drone captured his final moments, marking a significant success in Israel’s fight against Hamas.

“The excitement we all felt when we heard Sinwar was dead and that the drone we donated helped locate him was unreal,” said one of the donors.

The story underscores the profound impact of community-driven support during times of crisis. As Meisels noted, “Jews in America pitched in and donated so we could do our job.”

This heartfelt gesture highlights the enduring connection between Jewish communities worldwide and Israel, demonstrating the power of unity in the face of adversity.
