Former IDF Chief Lawyer Tomer‐Yerushalmi Released from Hospital Amid Ongoing Probe

Police prepare to resume questioning as investigation into alleged Sde Teiman video leak nears completion.

Former IDF military advocate general Yifat Tomer‑Yerushalmi was released Friday morning from Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital, nearly a month after being admitted following what police described as a serious suicide attempt. Her discharge clears the way for investigators to resume questioning her in the high-profile case surrounding the alleged leak of a video documenting abuse at the Sde Teiman detention facility.

Police say Tomer‑Yerushalmi is suspected not only of leaking the footage but of attempting to cover up the incident afterward allegations that have shaken Israel’s military legal establishment. Her interrogation was halted when she was hospitalized in early November after reportedly ingesting a large quantity of sleeping pills.

Police Commissioner Daniel Levy addressed the incident publicly at the time, noting both the gravity of the allegations and the human toll. “She tried to commit suicide; her life is not rosy,” he said. “It’s true, she committed an offense, and we are investigating. She has influence on what the army looks like and what soldiers look like, and we must ensure the system remains safe and trustworthy.”

Throughout her hospitalization, mental‑health specialists assessed Tomer‑Yerushalmi as being at high risk of further self‑harm, underscoring the intense scrutiny and emotional pressure she has faced in recent weeks.

Police sources confirm that investigators will soon confront her with a wide array of evidence already collected, including data retrieved from her cellphone. The device which went missing during her hospitalization and was later discovered on a beach was forensically examined along with its cloud backups. According to sources who spoke with Maariv, the material strengthens suspicions relating to the Sde Teiman leak.

“The investigation is at an advanced stage, and a serious indictment is expected soon,” one source said, adding that the Tel Aviv District Prosecution is now overseeing the case and preparing additional investigative steps.

With Tomer‑Yerushalmi’s release from hospital, the inquiry is entering what officials describe as its final phase a moment of deep consequence for one of the most sensitive legal scandals to touch the IDF in recent memory. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
