Trump Announces Israel-Iran Ceasefire Ending 12-Day War

A remarkable chapter in Middle East history drew to a close on Monday, as U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran formally ending the 12-day war that many feared could engulf the region.

The ceasefire, Trump said, would go into effect at midnight Eastern Time, roughly six hours after his initial announcement on Truth Social. “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total ceasefire,” he declared. “During each ceasefire, the other side will remain peaceful and respectful.”

Framing the agreement as a diplomatic triumph, Trump wrote, “I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end what should be called ‘the 12-Day War.’” He emphasized that while the conflict could have spiraled into a long, devastating confrontation, it was contained and ended through decisive leadership and coordination.

Within hours of the announcement, Israel confirmed that it had agreed to the ceasefire, stating that all objectives of Operation Rising Lion had been met. The IDF’s campaign one of the most precise and far-reaching in its history crippled Iran’s nuclear capabilities, eliminated key Revolutionary Guard assets, and neutralized long-range missile threats aimed at the Israeli homeland.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, writing on X, described being “awakened by phone instead of ballistic missile” and praised President Trump for delivering peace, not just hoping for it. “The 12-day conflict felt like 12 months,” Huckabee said, echoing the emotional toll felt by millions during the brief but intense war.

The ceasefire arrives after unprecedented cooperation between Israeli and American military forces, with the United States launching parallel strikes that accelerated Tehran’s strategic collapse. Israel’s military also scored numerous tactical victories across Iranian territory, dismantling missile storage sites, radar installations, and key command centers all while protecting Israeli civilians from continued Iranian aggression.
