Trump Pressures Iran to Abandon Nuclear Weapons, Dismisses Ceasefire Efforts
As Operation Rising Lion continues, Trump signals US may escalate if Iran refuses to fully dismantle nuclear program.

As Israel’s Operation "Rising Lion" intensifies, US President Donald Trump made clear on Tuesday that his administration seeks nothing short of a full dismantling of Iran’s nuclear weapons program firmly rejecting any push for a ceasefire that leaves Iran’s nuclear ambitions intact.
Speaking while departing the G7 summit in Canada, Trump stated bluntly, “I want Iran to give up entirely on nuclear weapons. I am looking for a real end, not just a ceasefire.” His remarks underscore Washington’s hardening stance as Israel continues its massive military campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.
Trump hinted that Israel’s air campaign is far from over. “You're going to find out over the next two days... Nothing's slowed up so far,” he said, suggesting that Jerusalem remains firmly committed to its mission of eliminating Iran’s nuclear and ballistic capabilities.
While the president did not rule out future diplomatic channels, mentioning the possible involvement of US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance, he made clear that any such talks depend entirely on future developments. “It depends on what happens when I get back,” Trump said.
Later, Trump clarified that no outreach had been made to Tehran for peace negotiations. “Iran should have taken the deal that was on the table,” he posted on Truth Social, underscoring his belief that Tehran has squandered its chance for a diplomatic solution.
At the G7 summit, which included urgent discussions on the rapidly escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the allied nations issued a joint statement urging restraint and diplomacy. The declaration reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself while stressing that “Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” labeling Tehran as “the principal source of regional instability and terror.”
The statement also urged broader de-escalation across the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza, and pledged G7 coordination to safeguard global energy markets. Trump ultimately signed the G7 statement but was initially reluctant to endorse its more cautious diplomatic tone.
Following the summit, Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio left Canada early, returning to Washington for high-level security consultations. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump returned to attend to “many important matters,” while reports indicate that the National Security Council and Pentagon were fully mobilized upon his arrival.
“It was a crazy night in Washington everyone was working at the White House and the Pentagon. This might really be the Iranians’ last opportunity before the US gets actively involved,” one source told The Jerusalem Post.
French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that Trump returned to Washington to work on a ceasefire, but the US president dismissed Macron’s remarks as inaccurate. “He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
As Israel’s air campaign continues dismantling Iran’s nuclear program and degrading its military leadership, Washington’s position signals growing pressure on Tehran: fully abandon your nuclear ambitions or face the growing possibility of expanded military consequences.
