'Emaciated' Israeli Hostages Prompt Trump to Threaten Ceasefire Deal
Former president condemns Hamas for hostage conditions, calls for stronger action.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed outrage over the condition of three Israeli hostages recently released by Hamas, comparing their frail appearance to Holocaust survivors. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, Trump indicated that his patience with the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was wearing thin.
"They look like Holocaust survivors. They were in horrible condition. They were emaciated," Trump said. "I don't know how much longer we can take that ... at some point we're going to lose our patience."
The release of Or Levy, Ohad Ben Ami, and Eli Sharabi on Saturday sparked shock and anger across Israel. The hostages appeared severely malnourished, with sunken faces and frail bodies, reinforcing concerns about the treatment of those still held captive in Gaza.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement vowing that "the shocking images that we have seen today will not go unaddressed." President Isaac Herzog called the condition of the hostages "a crime against humanity," while Brig.-Gen. (Res.) Gal Hirsch, Israel’s Coordinator for the Hostages and the Missing, expressed "grave concern" over Hamas’ repeated violations of agreements.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized the international community for focusing on alleged humanitarian issues in Gaza while ignoring the suffering of Israeli hostages. "The images don't lie," Sa'ar stated, asserting that the hostages were the true victims of starvation, not the population of Gaza.
With 76 hostages still in Hamas captivity, the condition of those released has intensified calls for stronger action. Trump’s remarks add further uncertainty to the ceasefire negotiations and suggest that U.S. policy under his leadership may take a more aggressive stance.
