Trump Expects ‘Conclusive’ Gaza War Ending Within Weeks

US President urges world to remember October 7 as ceasefire talks continue without Israeli approval.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that he expects the war in Gaza to come to a “conclusive” end within the next two to three weeks, as pressure mounts on Israel and Hamas to reach a negotiated ceasefire.

Speaking at the White House alongside South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Trump expressed optimism that a resolution was close. “I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have a pretty good, conclusive ending,” he told reporters, while cautioning that the horrors of Hamas’s October 7 massacre must not be forgotten.

“It has to end, but people can’t forget Oct. 7,” Trump said, referencing the day Hamas terrorists stormed southern Israel, murdering 1,200 people and abducting 251 hostages the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

That brutal assault, which included mass killings, sexual violence, and kidnappings, prompted Israel’s military campaign to dismantle Hamas and free its hostages. Nearly two years later, the conflict continues, and negotiations remain delicate.

Trump’s remarks come as Hamas last week agreed to a new ceasefire proposal, brokered by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. The proposed deal would include a 60-day truce in exchange for the release of 10 living Israeli hostages and the remains of 18 others. In return, Israel would free a substantial number of Palestinian prisoners, increase humanitarian aid access, and partially withdraw its forces from Gaza.

Though Hamas has accepted the terms, Israel has yet to respond officially. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that discussions are underway, with a focus on securing the return of the hostages and ensuring long-term security for Israeli citizens.

Trump, who previously highlighted his record of securing hostage releases during his first term, continues to take a firm stance against any deal that compromises Israeli safety. “People need to remember what started this war and who they’re negotiating with,” he warned.

As the world watches closely, the prospect of a near-term resolution hangs in the balance. While Washington remains involved in mediating, Israel must weigh its military goals, national security, and the wellbeing of its abducted citizens before committing to any deal.
