NY Jewish Voters Show Increased Support for Trump, Doubling 2020

Growing Concerns Over Antisemitism and Progressive Politics Shift Jewish Voter Support.

Former President Donald Trump has gained substantial support from Jewish voters in New York, capturing 45% of the Jewish vote in Tuesday’s primary a significant rise from the 30% he received in 2020. This shift marks a 50% increase in Jewish backing for Trump, according to exit polls by Fox News. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris received 55% of the Jewish vote, a decrease from President Biden’s 69% support among Jewish voters in 2020.

The dramatic swing highlights growing dissatisfaction among Jewish voters with the Democratic Party’s handling of issues important to them, including responses to rising antisemitism across the United States and on college campuses. Maury Litwack of the Teach Coalition, who has been closely monitoring Jewish voter trends, tweeted, “I’m so proud of Jewish turnout across the country… we are getting early reports in and huge groundbreaking numbers.”

Litwack noted that the Republican gains reflect Jewish voters’ concerns with the Democratic Party’s perceived alignment with progressive policies, which some voters see as diverging from their interests and values. The increased support for Trump also follows recent Democratic primary results where progressive figures, such as Representatives Jamaal Bowman of New York and Cori Bush of Missouri, faced significant challenges from moderate Democratic opponents.

The Republican Jewish Coalition invested $15 million in the election cycle to support Trump, arguing that Harris’s political stance aligns more with progressive policies rather than traditional Jewish values. With this financial commitment and a targeted outreach strategy, Republicans are capitalizing on shifting sentiments within the Jewish community and mobilizing support for the 2024 election.

This trend underscores a pivotal moment for Jewish voter influence in American politics, with concerns about rising antisemitism and community safety prompting shifts in traditional voting patterns.
