US Delivers 2,000-Pound Bombs to Israel After Trump Lifts Hold

Strategic Military Support Reinforces US-Israel Alliance Amid Ongoing Conflict.

In a significant development, Israel has received a shipment of MK-84 2,000-pound bombs from the United States, following President Donald Trump's decision to lift a hold previously imposed by the Biden administration. This move underscores the robust military alliance between the two nations amid ongoing regional tensions.

The Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed the arrival of approximately 1,800 heavy bombs at Ashdod Port. These munitions were promptly transported to various Israeli airbases to bolster the country's defense capabilities. Defense Minister Israel Katz expressed gratitude, stating, "The munitions shipment that arrived in Israel tonight, released by the Trump administration, represents a significant asset for the Air Force and the IDF and serves as further evidence of the strong alliance between Israel and the United States."

The initial hold on these munitions was instituted by the Biden administration in May 2024, amid concerns over their potential use in densely populated areas of Gaza during Israel's ground offensive in Rafah. The decision aimed to mitigate civilian casualties in the conflict zone. However, upon taking office in January 2025, President Trump reversed this policy, authorizing the release of the MK-84 bombs to Israel.

Since the onset of hostilities in October 2023, Israel has received substantial military support from the United States. The Defense Ministry reports that over 76,000 tons of military equipment have been delivered, primarily from the U.S., via 678 transport planes and 129 ships. This assistance has been pivotal in enhancing Israel's operational readiness and defense posture.

The MK-84 bomb, a cornerstone of the U.S. military arsenal since the Vietnam War, is renowned for its destructive capability. Weighing approximately 2,000 pounds, it can penetrate up to 15 inches of metal or 11 feet of concrete, making it a formidable asset in strategic military operations.

This latest delivery arrives amidst a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, established to facilitate the exchange of hostages and prisoners. While the truce has temporarily halted active combat, the region remains on high alert, with diplomatic efforts ongoing to secure a more lasting peace.

The reinforcement of Israel's military capabilities through this shipment not only enhances its defense infrastructure but also signifies the unwavering support of the United States. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to regional stability and the protection of mutual interests.
