US Embassy in Israel Resumes Full Operations

Consular services reopen as Home Front Command lifts shelter orders but travel limits remain.

The US Embassy in Israel announced on Wednesday that it has resumed full operations, following the removal of safety restrictions by Israel’s Home Front Command. This marks a significant step toward normalization after weeks of heightened tension and missile threats during the conflict with Iran.

While embassy staff and their families are no longer required to stay in protected areas, the US government continues to enforce regional travel restrictions for its personnel. Movement is still limited to the greater Tel Aviv area, including Herzliya, Netanya, and Even Yehuda, as well as Jerusalem and Beersheba. Travel between these cities and to transportation hubs like Ben Gurion Airport and the Allenby Bridge is allowed, but trips outside these areas remain prohibited.

The embassy is encouraging American citizens in Israel or the West Bank who wish to depart to do so promptly by any available means, even if their preferred travel options are unavailable.

As of Wednesday morning, consular services for American citizens have fully resumed in both the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv branches. This includes the issuance of passports, reports of birth abroad, and other citizen services. Notably, the embassy is also accepting walk-ins for emergency passports, with priority given to those arriving before 8:30 AM.

Visa processing, which had been suspended during the emergency period, is scheduled to restart on Monday, June 30.

This return to regular operations underscores the effectiveness of Israel's security measures in managing the recent crisis and maintaining the safety of international diplomats and residents alike. It also highlights the enduring partnership between Israel and the United States, as both nations adapt and respond to evolving security challenges together.
