Initiative Marks a Milestone in Advancing Medical Research and Education in Israel.

The Weizmann Institute of Science, one of the world’s leading research institutions, is set to open a new school of medicine, marking a historic expansion of its contributions to science and healthcare. The announcement was celebrated during a special event hosted by Israeli President Isaac Herzog in honor of the institute’s 90th anniversary.

President Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog welcomed Weizmann Institute President Prof. Alon Chen, Chairman Shimshon Harel, and Allied Group Chairman Prof. Itzhak Swary, whose significant donation was instrumental in establishing the school. Members of the institute’s International Board of Trustees and representatives of the Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth Fund, after whom the school will be named, also attended the event.

President Herzog praised the Weizmann Institute’s achievements, calling it “a beacon of innovation and discovery” in Israel and globally. Highlighting the institute’s long-standing reputation for cutting-edge research, Herzog expressed confidence that the new school of medicine would elevate the standards of medical education and research in Israel. “This initiative will prepare research doctors who can transform medicine in Israel and beyond,” Herzog said, underscoring the importance of the endeavor.

The Weizmann Institute is renowned for its groundbreaking work in fields such as biomedicine, molecular biology, and chemistry. The establishment of a medical school is expected to deepen the institute’s impact on healthcare by fostering collaboration between scientific research and clinical applications. This aligns with the institute’s mission to address some of the most pressing challenges in global medicine and to train a new generation of leaders in medical research.

The Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth School of Medicine promises to be a cornerstone for innovation in healthcare, further solidifying Israel’s position as a leader in science and medicine.
